As a homeowner, you want to do everything possible to help guarantee that your property is protected. Exterior waterproofing can help give you peace of mind. Especially if you live in an older home, it may become necessary to have it waterproofed. Water damage can be one of the most difficult and disastrous types of damage to have to deal with, and the expenses can really put a dent in your savings. Damages from water intrusion can add up to tens of thousands of dollars and can affect your flooring, dry walls, electronics, furnishings, and many other valued personal possessions.

If that is not bad enough, having water leak into your basement can also have serious health consequences. Mould and mildew can begin to grow, and they tend to thrive well in basement environments. If you have members of your family who already experience respiratory difficulties due to allergies or asthma, this can make it much worse for them. Even perfectly healthy members of your household can experience severe illness from mould. Do not delay having your leaky basement fixed; the problem will eventually get worse. Small leaks turn into large ones, and the longer they go on, the more damage accumulates, which of course makes a more expensive repair job.
Exterior waterproofing is the most highly recommended solution for basement waterproofing. This method of waterproofing will protect your basement from the outside by redirecting water away from your home’s foundation. It is a quite extensive process. The foundation will be completely excavated in the problem areas, and any cracks will be filled with hydraulic cement. Following this, sealants, membranes, weeping tile, and gravel will be put in place to keep the water away from your foundation walls. This method is extremely effective, and you can be assured that your basement will stay nice and dry!

Process of Exterior Waterproofing
The process of exterior waterproofing is complex. We will start the process with preparation for excavation. Most cities, such as Toronto, require us to have locations ordered and marked so we know where we can safely dig. Once we have located them, we will start the process. Cover the surrounding area with tarps and begin excavation.
Excavation
Excavation is carried out with the help of heavy machinery and our service technicians. This will expose the wall all the way down to the footings. Here we can see any cracks or damages to the foundation wall or weeping tiles.
Fix cracks and damages
Start with cleaning the surface and grinding any required area so it can be repaired. Using hydraulic cement, we fix all the cracks and damages and apply a waterproof coating that resists moisture. This prepares the wall for coating application.
Aqua-bloc Coating
Once cracks and damages to the foundation walls are repaired, we apply Aqua-bloc liquid asphalt to seal the wall. Then we use a black, flexible, rubberized, tar-like material engineered to stop water from entering basement walls. This is applied carefully to the entire wall, letting it reach all the small crevices and protecting every inch of the foundation wall. Aqua-bloc is a water-based VOC-compliant material that provides extreme adhesion to foundations and concrete and is environmentally safe and friendly.
Reinforcement Mesh
After proper application of aqua-bloc is completed, we install a fibre mesh on top of the aqua-bloc application to create sturdiness and reinforcement. This is later covered in another layer of aqua-bloc coating, creating a thick coating of water and moisture protection for your wall.
Delta Membrane
Installation of the delta membrane is commenced after. Delta membrane is a heavy-duty polyurethane material that directs any water or moisture to the weeping tile that is later installed at the footing. The delta membrane is secured with special clips and screws to ensure the longevity of the application.
Weeping Tile Installation
Weeping tiles, sometimes referred to as drain tiles or perforated drainage pipes, are flexible pipes with tiny holes or slots that are used in drainage systems to divert surplus water away from buildings such as basements, foundations, and landscaped areas. It is usually placed underground, usually near a building’s foundation, to stop water buildup that can cause structural problems, flooding, or water damage. The weeping tile works by collecting groundwater or surface water through its perforations and channeling it away from the area, often into a sump pump, dry well, or natural drainage outlet. It is usually surrounded by gravel or another porous material to help water flow into the pipe and prevent dirt or debris from clogging it. Proper installation of a weeping tile system is essential for effective drainage and maintaining the stability and dryness of the area it protects.
